Cuthbert Pallister was the seventh child of John Pallister & Ellinor Yealder born at Windlestone, Auckland St Andrew, Co Durham & christened February 9th, 1794 at Auckland St Andrew.
Cuthbert married Jane Dodds on February 27th, 1823 at St Auckland St Andrew. Jane was born c1798 at Byers Green, Co Durham.
Cuthbert is recorded in the Poll Books of 1832 as living at Windlestone & having property at Witton Gilbert, Co Durham. This property was inherited from his uncle William Yealder of Witton Gilbert.
In 1841 Cuthbert & Jane were living at the Cottages, Windleston, St Andrew Auckland, Co Durham where Cuthbert was an agricultural labourer. With them was son George (8) & daughter Sarah (6). Cuthbert’s brother John Pallister, also an agricultural labourer, was living in a neighbouring cottage.
Cuthbert & Jane were living at Aycliffe Moor House, Great Aycliffe, Co Durham in 1851 & Cuthbert was now described as an agricultural labourer (hind). Daughter Sarah was still living at home. Son John was working as a journeyman blacksmith at this time & living in Fore Bondgate St, Bishop Auckland with Edward Dodds (31) & his family at the blacksmith’s shop.
In 1861 Cuthbert & Jane were still living at Great Aycliffe, now at Monksend & Cuthbert was still an agricultural labourer. With them was daughter Sarah & a granddaughter Sarah Ann Pallister (6) who was born at Bedlington, Northumberland. Sarah Ann was the child of son John Pallister who had married Elizabeth Dodds in Auckland in 1851 but who sadly died in 1856. (Sarah Ann was to marry Jonathan Wylie, a colliery fireman, in 1878)
Cuthbert had retired by 1871 & he & Jane were living at Heighington St, Great Aycliffe. Daughter Sarah was still at home & worked as an agricultural labourer in the fields as did granddaughter Sarah A Pallister (16) who was still living with them. Another granddaughter, Hannah (7), was listed with them at the time of the census. Hannah was the illegitimate child of daughter Sarah christened July 4th, 1863 at Aycliffe. In 1881 daughter Sarah was living at Heighington St, Great Aycliffe with her daughter Hannah. Both were described as general domestic servants.
Jane died in 1872, aged 77, & was buried on September 25th, 1872 at St Andrew's Anglican Church, Aycliffe.
Cuthbert died in 1874, aged 81, & was buried on September 14th at St Andrew's Anglican Church, Aycliffe.
